Hello friends! My name is Jessica and I am the owner of Balayage Portland. To those of you who have been by my side for this 10 year journey, I cannot thank you enough. It is because of your trust and loyalty that I am here fulfilling this dream and have the ability to provide a bright future for my daughter. For those of you who are new, I'd like to extend you the warmest welcome to our space!

After graduating with a degree in Psychology from The University of North Carolina, Wilmington, I was faced with a difficult decision. Forge on to grad school or shift gears and dive into the world of Cosmetology. I had to follow my heart and thus began my humble hair journey.

From hair school, to a lengthy and enriching apprenticeship at Akari, to studying in New York at The House of Bumble, and 10 years of singular focus on my craft, I found my flow and ability to paint beautiful hair. Along the way, I took a leap of faith and became an entrepreneur and shortly after, a mother! Becoming a mother fueled my fire to push through my fear and fulfill my dream of opening a boutique salon. I wanted to give my clients beautiful hair in an environment that made them feel something!

So, here we are, welcome to your new hair home! I hope you feel loved and inspired. I hope we are your temporary refuge in the middle of your hectic week. I hope we can continue to fulfill your hair dreams while sharing in the joy of sisterhood.

Let's continue to celebrate these wins together.

2019 is ours!

Hey beauties my name is Nicky Couch! I grew up in the small town of Rumford, Maine.  From a young age I was inspired by my Memmie who was a professional in the beauty industry. My aspirations to make my own splash in the industry grew from there.

I have been crafting my skills since I was 16 years old, and have had the privilege of turning my passion into a career.  Whether it’s a cut, color, or balayage I got you’re back! I also specialize in weddings and making brides feel stunning on their special day. I work as an independent freelancer as well as alongside Jessica Candage Glam Artist doing weddings all over New England. Even at a young age I feel I have a ton of experience and have worked at many events such as The Meca Fashion show, and the Little Black Dress event to list a few. I also had the opportunity of a lifetime working as a glam artist with high profile models  backstage at the 2018 Miami Fashion Week! I’m always keeping up on the newest trends and striving to give my clients a look they will love!

Hello there, I'm Kari! I've always known I wanted to do this. I attended Emerson College in Boston right out of high school, but secretly wanted to become a stylist. For me, I knew not only that I wanted to work in a creative field but that creating in a hands-on setting was most fulfilling to me. I decided to go for it in 2010, completed my professional training a year later and never looked back!

Over the years I have been lucky enough to not only to build my career in Portland, a city I love in the state I am from, but also work in New York City, Melbourne, Australia, and New Zealand where I spent years traveling and working. It was incredible to combine styling and travel, my two biggest passions in life. I have a "work hard, play hard" philosophy and when I'm not behind the chair, I'm planning my family's next trip with my fiancé and daughter.

My specialization in hair color means I create a look just for you. I have mastered many techniques including but not limited to baby-fine, delicate foiling, bright blonde, and hand-painted balayage and will often combine different techniques to achieve as subtle or as bold of a look is desired. I welcome all hair textures and enjoy creating any color.

Equally fulfilling to me is styling and makeup. Soft beach-waves and glowy skin make my heart sing. I offer styling services both in the salon and on-location for weddings and photo-shoots.

Joining the team at Balayage Portland is the culmination of nearly a decade experience in this industry. I am thrilled to be able to work amongst stylists I respect in a creative environment. I would love to be your stylist and swap travel tips, laugh about the craziness of parenting little ones or just make you look and feel beautiful!

Hi there! My name is Marissa. I am from Brewer, ME! Throughout the years, I’ve realized my love and passion for beauty. Since I was a little girl, I always knew that I wanted to be a hair stylist. I always thought what a cool job it must be to make girls feel beautiful all day, everyday.

After I graduated from Brewer High School, I started cosmetology school at SpaTech in Westbrook. Following graduation I moved back to Bangor, thinking it would be the easiest way to get a clientele in a town where I was familiar. I started working at Eden Salon in Brewer, where I worked for 3 years! At this salon I was able to gain new skills as well as develop a loyal clientele.

I always knew that I wanted to move back to Portland at some point in my life. It just so happened that I got offered a job at Balayage Portland! I can’t wait to continue doing what I love with this lovely group of ladies. For all of my clients, thank you for being so supportive and following me down to Portland!

If you’re in need of some pampering, then I’m your girl! I specialize in Balayage hair painting for all hair colors. I also enjoy doing hair for weddings, being a part of such a special day is something I look forward to filling my summers with!

With that being said, I am taking all new and old clients! I hope to see you all in my new chair and beautiful salon!

Oh hey gorgeous, I’m Ash

I am a Maine native but have been living in Boston for the past 8 years. I attended hair school in Portland, but at the age of 21 I decided to chase my dreams of being a hairstylist on the famous Newbury Street. I grew from a jr. stylist to a master colorist/stylist very quickly with a lot of hard work and discipline. I was fortunate to work beside some of the top stylists in the industry. I truly believe that continuing education is the key to success. I have traveled the world for advanced education to keep myself and clients up to date on the newest trends and techniques.

Working with products you love makes all the difference. Goldwell is my go to color line, it just never fails me. In just 2 short years I was able to complete Goldwell's intense master colorist program. I pride myself on holding myself to a high standard and working with the best tools out there. For me Goldwell’s color and their products give me the technical support I need as a colorist.

Hmm so a little about me. I’m a lover of dogs. I mean I will actually stop you and ask to pet your dog in the street. When I’m not behind the chair you can probably assume one of a few things. I’m with my boyfriend and our blonde fur baby Daisy, shopping, eating at the newest restaurants, or working out.

Did I mention I love shopping? When I graduated high school I thought I wanted to be a personal stylist for people. In some ways I feel like I am. My clients are always asking where to shop or what to wear. I would say I have a pretty feminine boho lux style. But if you catch me on my off days I’m most likely rocking athleisure. I’m not one for outlandish trends but i’ll try anything once (or buy it and let it sit in my closet).

I’m most known for my blonding work. I think because I am a blonde I have the eye for what my babes are looking for. My go to style would be a lived in beachy California blonde. I live for taking an unhappy client and showing her that you can have the hair you have always dreamed of.

i look forward to meeting all my future guests.
